Today we learned about decimals which is defined as : any number written in base-ten positional numeration.
A decimal can be written as 25.2 that means to the left of the decimal we look at place value, and to the right of the decimal we are looking at number of decimal places. The number 25.2 can be expressed as twenty five and two tenths, because the left of the decimal you count ones, tens, hundreds, thousands. The right of the decimal you count tenths, hundreds, thousandths. The teacher showed us how to used shaded decimals squares to let us see how it looks with a flat of 100. An example of this would be if you have 100 blocks and one block was shaded in it would represent 0.01 because, since the flat we are using is 100 the numbers to the right of the decimal would be the tenths place and the hundredths place. I enjoyed learnig about decimals again to refresh my skills. The presentations were very good .Here is a good video on decimals.
I think you did a good job of explaining how a decimal is written and the concept of place value with decimals. I always mix up the names of the places on either side of the decimal point; like saying "hundreds" and "hundredths". I wanted to watch the vidoe, but I could not find the link. Overall, very informative post.
